Reducing the TFI in peach production - Ecopêche 1 projet review (2013-2018)

The EcoPêche project, aimed at designing and evaluating innovative peach management systems, assessed the impact of a reduction in treatment frequency indices (TFI) on the technoeconomic results of peach orchards and the commercial quality of the fruit. Three management systems were compared (IFP, Eco 50 and Organic). The Eco 50 system combines different levers and aims to reduce the TFIs by 30 to 50% compared to the reference system. A 53% reduction in TFIs (non-biocontrol) was possible for this system. The use of woven fabric ground covers (for weed control) and specific management methods (biocontrol, no pesticide application if risk is low/moderate) contributed to this reduction but at the same time induced a shorter shelf-life of the fruit and production losses leading to poorer techno-economic results compared to the IFP system.
